2024 Toyota Highlander vs. 2024 Ford Explorer®

in Memphis, TN

The best adventures are shared, especially when you have the new 2024 Toyota Highlander at your command. Bring along seven of your closest friends for a total seating capacity of eight passengers. Those three rows may fill up quickly, but your friends will feel relaxed and comfortable with the Toyota Highlander model's spacious leg room. Speaking of space, enjoy 84.3 cubic feet of cargo volume with the second and third rows folded down.1 That's more than enough room to securely fit your grocery haul, home improvement supplies, soccer gear and more. But don't mistake this full-size SUV's dimensions with unnecessary bulk. As powerful as it is versatile, the Toyota Highlander boasts a 265-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine and optional Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive (TV-AWD). Tow up to 5,000 pounds on your way to the lake or across the country.2 Ready to embark on your new adventure? Let the new 2024 Toyota Highlander lead the way.

Sure, the new 2024 Ford Explorer® may make some big promises in adventure and fun — after all, it's in the name — but can it compete with the mighty new 2024 Toyota Highlander? Take a look at the graph below to find out.

The new 2024 Ford Explorer® doesn't have much to offer the modern driver, especially when it's compared to the new 2024 Toyota Highlander. Both SUVs have their own branded safety system, but honestly, what family-friendly vehicle wouldn't have one these days? The Toyota Highlander LE — the base model — has standard LED fog lights, a helpful safety feature for those foggy mornings or bouts of inclement weather. The Ford Explorer does offer LED fog lights, but only on higher, more expensive trims than its base. Plus, the best that the Ford Explorer® can offer in terms of SUV must-haves is a standard power liftgate and an available twin-panel moonroof. Meanwhile, the Toyota Highlander can be equipped with an optional height-adjustable hands-free power liftgate with jam protection and an available panoramic glass roof with sunshade and front power tilt/slide moonroof. Those features are wordy for a reason — put simply, they're just better than the features on the Ford Explorer. The Toyota Highlander is also the only one of the two that offers optional heated second-row seats and boasts an available 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia Display. The Ford Explorer only has an optional 10.1-inch center screen. Yikes.

1Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and distribution. Always properly secure cargo and cargo area.

2Never tow beyond a vehicle’s published towing capacities. Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. Follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual.
